BARCELONA (PART I).

My 21st birthday gift from my parents was a special one: a city trip! I could choose between three cities: Rome, Lisbon or Barcelona. And as you can see I decided on going to Barcelona! I was there once before, but that was just for one day, so I didn`t see very much. (In fact I just saw the inside of shops. Yes I know, what a shame!)

I`m so glad that we went to Barcelona, because the architecture there is just amazing! (If you don`t know it already, I`m an architecture student.) There are so many extraordinary buildings (old and new!), a dream for every architecture lover!

We were there for two full days and that was enough for seeing the main sights, but I have to say that it was pretty intense and there was absolutely no time for shopping. ;) So I think that three days would be perfect, especially if you want to visit some museums. (We didn`t visit any.) And if you want to spend a day on the beach, then I would add another day!

Above you can see La Rambla, one of the main streets in Barcelona. Typically for Barcelona are the many trees in the streets and those scores of people!
Here you find also the well known market “Mercat de la Boqueria”. If you like food then you should`nt miss this! The best restaurants in Barcelona buy their food here, I think that says it all!

A few streets further stands the Barcelona museum of contemporary art. It`s a typical Richard Meier building. (If you don`t know what I mean, then look at this and this building.)

Speaking of modern architecture, Barcelona has a handful of interesting skyscrapers. The Torre Agbar by Jean Nouvel is one of them.Barcelona 10

Barcelona lies directly by the sea and even if you`re just staying for two days, you have to go there. Along the beach you find a lot of cocktail bars. (I love cocktails!) We took an aperitif there and afterwards we went to one of the many fish restaurants. We were told that in this area you would eat the best fish and we can`t complain, it was amazing!

From May to September you can see the spectacular Magic Fountain show. We were very lucky to see it, because it was its last day. The show takes about thirty minutes and the water constellations are accompanied by music. As you can see on the pictures, it`s an impressive spectacle!

Again, I`ve taken so many pictures, that I can`t just write one post about this trip. There`s still so much to talk about, so part II will follow soon!
